Lim is an American midwife living in Bali who day after day helps poor Indonesian women have healthy and safe pregnancies and births. Lim’s clinics seek, “to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality and to support the health and wise development of communities. Toward this goal, we provide general health services, emergency care, prenatal, postpartum, birth services and breastfeeding support, in addition to education and environmental programs.” The clinics provide health services and consulatations over 17,000 times each year to the women and children in the village where they are located. Lim began providing services for free in 1995, and by 2005 the demand had grown so high that she, along with others she had trained, opened Yayasan Bumi Sehat Nyuh Kuning Village to meet the needs of the surrounding community.
