Friday Round Up

August 10, 2012 § Leave a comment

It’s been a busy last couple of weeks around here,  but I wanted to share a few things that I think are worth checking out. Hope you have a happy weekend.

The US Women’s Soccer team won the gold medal yesterday.  So awesome!

Olympian Gabby Douglas is confused about why people are talking about her hair, since you know, she’s a gold medal winning gymnast and all. “I’m like, I just made history and people are focused on my hair? It doesn’t matter….”

What if all Olympians were photographed like the women of beach volleyball are photographed? Talk about sexual objectification.

Chloe at Feministing wrote a great piece on sexist Olympic coverage.

And if the Olympics aren’t your thing….

SPARK is doing some really wonderful work with queer and trans youth of color.

John Kinnear wrote a letter to his hypothetically gay son. It is the kind of response I wish every parent of an LGBTQ person would have.
